ABVI announces May recreational events line-up

Each month, ABVI holds a number of recreational events. Registration is required for participation in all ABVI recreational programming. To register for any of the following events, please contact JoAnn Vaccaro, ABVI Recreation Coordinator, at (585) 327-5520.

Here's what is happening this May:


What: A once monthly book club, that engages in thought provoking discussions about the book of the month. The Page-turner's book club accepts members on an ongoing basis. Please call about transportation options, and assistance with obtaining audio books.

When: The club meets the first Monday of each month from 10:00 -11:30 a.m.

Where: Colie’s Sidewalk Café, 657 Park Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607

What: This lively over 60 club meets monthly for a lunch and special program. The WAMS group has some of the original members that started the group over 30 years ago! The special programs include health and wellness, music, community resource presentations, games and much more!

When: The second Wednesday of every month from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Where: ABVI, 422 South Clinton Ave, Rochester, NY 14620, Boardroom

Cost: Lunch is a senior center meal provided by ABVI's Food Service Department (suggested donation $2.50)

What: Enjoy a day of shopping at South Town Plaza, home to over 30 retailers including Burlington Coat Factory, Jo-Ann Etc., Clothes Mentor, David’s Bridal, Once Upon a Child, Athletic Outlet, Casual Male XL, Office Max, Price Rite Market, The Art Store, Dollar Tree, Payless Shoes, Play it Again Sports, Plato’s Closet, Harbor Freight Tools, South Town Nails and Spa, The Avenue, Jitter’s Café, and more! 1:1 sighted guides to be provided. If needed, transportation is available for $10.00

When: Thursday, May 10, 2012, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Where: South Town Plaza, 3333 West Henrietta Road in Rochester, New York.

Cost: There is no fee for this event. Participants are responsible for bringing their own spending money.

The M.I.N.D series are informational sessions held on the third Tuesday of the month at ABVI.


What: A simple and fun approach to adding organization to your life, including your health care. Learn how a little investment of time can improve your quality of life, decrease your stress, and give you more time to do the things that you really enjoy. You will receive tips that you can use to get organized at home or in the office. Presented by Cheryl Minchella of MVP Healthcare

When: Tuesday, May 15, 2012, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Where: ABVI-422 South Clinton Ave, Rochester, NY 14620, Boardroom

What: With a variety of pieces to choose from, select a ceramics piece you would like to paint. Choices range from mugs, to dishes, to figurines. Use stencils, sponges, or even your fingers to paint your piece with colors you decide on! When you are finished, your piece will be dipped in a clear glaze and fired in a kiln. All materials are non-toxic, lead free, and food safe! Make something for yourself, or as a gift for someone else.

When: Friday, May 18, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Where: Color Me Mine, 3349 Monroe Ave, Pittsford, NY
Cost: $10.00 covers the cost to paint one ceramics piece. If needed, transportation is available for an additional $10.00
