Board of Directors Spotlight

William Barnecut-Kearns
Board Chair, Goodwill of the Finger Lakes
Vice President, Macy's

What do you enjoy most about serving on the Board for Goodwill of the Finger Lakes?

I am thrilled to serve on the Board of an organization whose mission revolves around “removing barriers to employment” for multiple populations.  My mother believed in the importance of work and instilled that in my sister and me.  I feel strongly that whether it be through improved education, vocational training, adaptive technology, etc. that putting someone in a job with a future changes multiple lives.

What part of the organization are you most proud to represent?

The entrepreneurial culture at Goodwill makes me proud to share with our community what the organization accomplishes.  Goodwill’s ability to self-fund mission is impressive.  While philanthropic donation is critical, this organization could continue to be viable and change lives through entrepreneurship.

What is the one thing you'd like the community to know about Goodwill?

How a donated item becomes a job!  That what we chose to donate (and keep out of a landfill ) translates to opportunity.

What is something you enjoy doing in your personal time in the community?

What I enjoying doing in my personal time typically revolves around being active: working out, I have recently re-embraced being a skier, tennis, and I am compulsive about the condition of your yard….less of an activity and more of an illness…
