Jul 20, 2011

Rochester, NY – The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) today announced that its has earned ISO 9001:2008 Certification of its textile manufacturing, paper conversion, assembly, packaging, fulfillment and CD replication services.

“Customer needs and global competition are changing the way manufacturers are doing business, and quality is leading that change,” says Joyel Bennett, ABVI’s Director of Manufacturing and Food Service.

To stay ahead of the curve, Bennett says ABVI’s manufacturing management team realized that it was necessary for all of the organization’s 80 manufacturing employees to increase their knowledge of the quality requirements from their customers.

“We have a history of manufacturing quality products for all of our federal, state and commercial customers. Getting the ISO 9001 certification solidifies to our customers that we care about their needs,” says Bennett.

By tracking the quality objectives of customer satisfaction, on-time delivery, and product and service quality, Bennett says the organization continuously demonstrates its commitment to meeting and exceeding customer expectations.

“We have educated our workforce on our quality objectives and they understand that we all have to follow standard processes to ensure a quality product is being produced every time,” says Bennett.

ISO 9001 is a collection of requirements designed to help organizations improve customer satisfaction and produce products that meet all requirements and specifications. Simply stated:

  • Say what you do
  • Do what you say
  • Record that you did it
  • Improve it

ABVI’s manufacturing employees produce a wide variety of products such as self-stick notepads, memorandum books for the military, athletic apparel for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Coast Guard, and CD-ROMs for government agencies and other clients. In addition, the workforce also package and fulfill a variety of products including packet soap and lead information request orders.

“Our employees understand that customers are demanding more and more out of their suppliers having the discipline of an ISO 9001 registered quality system demonstrates to those customers that we are serious about quality,” says Bennett.
