Goodwill of the Finger Lakes is excited to help you make the most out of this year’s National Clean Out Your Closet Week! Whether it’s a truckload of items or just a few gently used pieces, we are ready to help you organize and refresh. If you are choosing to make some donations while cleaning out, visit any of our locations for an easy, quick, and friendly drop-off process. If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve created this simple 7-day guide to assist you. Even if not followed perfectly, there might be something to learn about your donations’ journeys!
Day 1: Set Your Intentions
Breathe. Your space is about to get a whole lot more organized. Get your headspace settled and eliminate distractions to start the donation journey.
Day 2: Sort It Out
It might not be the most fun, but go through your stuff, put on some music, and gather everything that you are ready to pass on. Think about how organized you’ll feel once it’s all done!
Day 3: Pack It Up
It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. As long as you’re able to carry it to your car or the local Goodwill, it’s packed well enough for our donation processors to handle.
Day 4: Drop Off or Schedule a Pick-Up
Bring your stuff to any of our stores or donation centers. If you aren’t able to make it, see if scheduling a pick-up is available in your area!
Day 5: Refresh Your Wardrobe
What could you possibly do with all of your new closet space? Refresh your wardrobe at Goodwill! It’s sustainable, more affordable, and fun. You deserve the thrift trip!
Day 6: Know Your Impact
Your donations and purchases make stories like these possible:
- A 30-year-old father earning his diploma to better provide for his family through the Goodwill Learning Academy.
- A woman losing her sight regaining independence by learning to navigate her home safely with Goodwill Vision Enterprises.
- A family finding food and stability with one call to 211/LIFE LINE.
- A teenager in struggle making a life-saving connection through 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
- Millions of pounds of goods being kept in circulation, providing items with a second life.
Your giving is integral to our mission:
Elevating people, community, and planet for a good today and better tomorrow.
Day 7: Keep it Up!
We have a feeling this won’t be your last time donating. Remember, we accept donations at all of our stores and attended donation centers and offer donation pick-up in select areas. Your stuff is in good hands with us. We can’t wait to help you on your next donation journey!
Thank you for donating and shopping with us!
