A Thrifted Halloween at Goodwill of the Finger Lakes

Oct 9, 2025

On October 9, 2025, Goodwill of the Finger Lakes was featured on News 8 WROC as the opening of their new East Rochester store was approaching. Their segment covered how Halloween is a time for fun and fright and emphasized the importance of keeping costumes and accessories accessible for everyone. To showcase the Halloween potential at Goodwill, President and CEO Jennifer Lake and the Mission Advancement team dressed up in Goodwill-sourced costumes, giving a sneak peek into the East Rochester Halloween inventory.

Halloween costumes are often worn only once before being tucked away in storage. Donating these items can give them a new life and provide another night of fun for children in the community. Goodwill offers brand-new costumes and accessories, gently used costume sets, Halloween décor, and more. For those who want to get creative, it’s the perfect place to mix and match unique pieces to build a one-of-a-kind costume for less than $20.

President and CEO Jennifer Lake was dressed as Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter. She said, “This year, nine out of 10 people say they’re going to dress up for Halloween, and 70% want to save money. My jumpsuit was $7.99, boots were $9.99, and you can pair it with accessories or a cowboy hat, which we also sell starting at $9.99.”

The new East Rochester location will become the 15th Goodwill of the Finger Lakes store. This expansion makes costumes, clothing, and other items more accessible to the community, and directly supports Goodwill’s mission-impact programs by helping fund the services that make a difference throughout the region.
