ABVI Honors Joseph and Nancy Briggs Family with Foresight Award at ABVI’s 2019 Visionary Gala: Hearts of Gold presented by Smola Consulting

Feb 27, 2019

Throughout the years, the Joseph and Nancy Briggs Family have made contributions to the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) that have demonstrated a commitment to the organization’s mission and to preserving its ability to serve those in our community who are blind or visually impaired well into the future. As a result of this generosity, ABVI, a mission program of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, is honoring the Joseph and Nancy Briggs Family with its prestigious Foresight Award at the organization’s 2019 Visionary Gala: Hearts of Gold presented by Smola Consulting, being on Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency Rochester.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors and all of our nearly 800 employees, I am very pleased and proud to present the prestigious Foresight Award to the Joseph and Nancy Briggs Family,” says Gidget Hopf, Goodwill of the Finger Lakes president and CEO.

According to Hopf Joseph and Nancy have been friends of ABVI for several decades. They have given time, talent, and generous financial support to advance the organization and its mission.

“If there was a need, Joe and Nancy made sure it did not go unmet,” says Hopf.

Hopf points out that this generosity extended to their children as well.

Their son, the late Jim Briggs, was a champion of ABVI, He first served on the Investment Committee and then for many years as a board member and also Board Chair. He was also the Co-Chair of the capital campaign that resulted in the state of the art Vision Rehabilitation Center.

Paula, Jim Briggs’ wife carries on his philanthropic spirit at ABVI. Joe and Nancy’s daughter Judy von Bucher and husband Erik have been long-time advocates and donors supporting ABVI’s mission many years. Jim and Judy’s sister Susan Kitchen continues the family tradition, currently serving as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Capital Campaign that will help bring the Excel Center to Rochester. Her husband Donald also serves on that committee.
