February 11th is 211 Day!

Feb 11, 2023

What is 211 Day?

211 Day is a day of awareness of the 211 hotline that supports our local community. During this day, 211 chapters across the country work together to spread awareness of the 211 hotlines that link people in need to agencies that can support them in their community.

What is 211?

211 is a 24/7 free and confidential service with an easy to remember phone number that provides information and referral for human services. This service aims to direct vulnerable and at-need individuals to the resources available within the community.

The helpline can provide support for basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, rent or utility assistance. Mental health resources such as support groups, drug or alcohol intervention and rehabilitation services are available. Employment services such as job training and education programs can be accessed through the helpline. Support for families, children, the elderly and those with disabilities are available through programs such as meals on wheels, homemaker services, adaptive aids, after-school programs, tutoring and childcare services.

How can YOU help?

During the COVID 19 pandemic we saw a 300% increase in calls from community members seeking services connected with the impacts of the pandemics. During this time Goodwill invested in hiring more staff before the dollars were provided to meet our communities needs. YOUR donation can help 211/LIFE LINE:

  • Pay our additional staff to continue to meet the needs of our community
  • Help pay for staff trainings to ensure that telecounselors are prepared for every type of call, text, and chat
  • Make sure that our telecounselors have the space and equipment necessary to feel comfortable and ready to meet the needs of the community

In the Rochester and Finger Lakes area, 211/LIFE LINE is a community program of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes. Some of our 211/LIFE LINE staff will be presenting and tabling today at the Webster, Eastview, Brockport, and Henrietta Goodwill stores from 1:30 - 3:30 PM. Come visit and learn about 211!

... and feel free to do some thrifting while your at it! $0.90 of every dollar you spend at our Goodwill stores goes to community programs like 211/LIFE LINE!

211/LIFE LINE, a community program of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, is a lead organization for the 2-1-1 Finger Lakes Region working in partnership with Institute for Human Services and Human Service Collation serving Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, Allegany, Yates, Tompkins, and Cortland Counties.
