Get Your Ugly on at Goodwill this Holiday Season

Dec 10, 2014

Rochester, N.Y. – Ugly. Tacky. Cheesy. Festive. Whatever you call them, Goodwill has the sweater for you this holiday season.

"We take sweater donations all year. Then we put them on the floor at this festive time of year. We like to think of it as a fun and tacky tradition," says Mary Boland, Director of Communications at Goodwill.

Boland points out that National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day – deemed the "ugliest" day of the year – is coming up on Friday December 12. According to TheFactSite.com, this year's National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day will break participation records.

"We’ll be joining in on the celebration of everything that makes these sweaters so wonderful,” says Boland.

Buying an ugly sweater from Goodwill this year does double the good. "You'll have the tackiest sweater around. And you'll feel good knowing that your great buy empowers people," says Boland. All sales support job readiness and skills training programs for people with barriers to independence.

Additionally, Goodwill and the Rochester-area Tim Horton's are partnering to provide a little extra holiday cheer.

"Donate to Goodwill. Or buy something at Goodwill, like a tacky sweater. You'll get a coupon for a free donut with beverage purchase at Tim Horton's," says Boland. "We're helping to spread the word about Tim's Tacky Sweater holiday-themed cup."

The promotion runs until December 31, 2014.
