Goodwill Announces New Store Opening in Rochester

Feb 19, 2014

Rochester, N.Y. – Goodwill of the Finger Lakes announced today that it is opening its newest store in the Rochester area this April in the former Wegmans location at 3660 Dewey Avenue. The announcement was made at Goodwill’s newest Donation Center at 805 Fetzner Road, less than three miles from the new store location.

“I’m extremely proud and excited to announce that we are opening our eleventh store in the Rochester area this spring,” said Gidget Hopf, president and CEO of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes. “With each new store, we generate economic opportunities and hope for people to overcome barriers to independence. We also revitalize no longer used retail spaces like the new store location. It is truly amazing what the power of work can do.”

The new store will create 40 full and part-time jobs. Goodwill has opened 10 stores and created over 500 jobs in the Greater Rochester area since coming to the community 20 years ago.

The announcement was made in Goodwill’s newest Donation Center in the Creekside Plaza on Fetzner Road to highlight the importance of donations to Goodwill’s mission of empowering people to overcome barriers to independence. The Donation Center is now open and accepting donations on a daily basis.

“We really need the community to clean out their closets and support our new store and Donation Center by donating their gently used clothes, shoes, electronics, house wares, and any other no longer needed items to fill the new store,” said Hopf. “Every donation supports our mission of empowering people to overcome barriers to independence.”

Hopf said that another way to think about how important donations made to Goodwill are is to consider that by “donating your stuff, you are creating jobs.”

“When you donate to Goodwill, those donations have the power to build lives,” said Hopf.

In addition to accepting donations at the Creekside Plaza Donation Center, Goodwill accepts donations at all of its stores and donation centers throughout the community. For a complete store listing and hours or operation, please visit http://www.GoodwillFingerLakes.com.
