New Goodwill Store in Cicero to Open May 16, 2015

May 12, 2015

Cicero, N.Y. – The new Goodwill store in Cicero, located at 7933 Brewerton Road, will open its doors to shoppers on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. with a brief ribbon cutting ceremony. The public is invited, and each of the first 100 guests in line will receive a $10 Goodwill gift card.

The store, which is just over 20,000 square feet and is filled with donated goods from clothing to shoes to house wares and books.

“We’re extremely proud and excited to be opening this store in Cicero on May 16,” said Gidget Hopf, president and CEO of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes. “By hiring nearly 40 local residents for full and part-time positions, the new Goodwill store in Cicero is boosting the local economy and empowering individuals who are facing barriers to independence. It is truly amazing what Goodwill and the power of work can do.”

Another impact of the store’s opening comes from the opportunity shoppers have to purchase gently used clothing and other items at up to 80 percent off mall prices.

The new Goodwill store in Cicero also gives residents an easy and convenient way to help divert many pounds of materials from the waste stream each year. The store offers a covered, drive-up donation area where a Goodwill staff member will assist donors with taking their donations out of their vehicle. Donors will receive a receipt for their items that may entitle them to tax savings.

The donated clothing and household items will be hand-processed, sized and colorized in the store with revenues derived from their sale supporting programs, services and employment opportunities for people of all ages with barriers to independence.

“When people come to the new Cicero store for the grand opening festivities, they can also shop our great variety of over 50,000 hand-selected items that fill the store,” said Hopf.

The merchandise Hopf is referring to is that which has been donated to Goodwill at one of its donation centers throughout the area, like the Clay Donation Center at 8430 Oswego Road (Route 57), Bayberry, NY.

“We really need the community to clean out their closets and support Goodwill by donating their gently used clothes, shoes, electronics, house wares, and any other no-longer-needed items,” said Hopf. “Every donation supports our mission of empowering people to overcome barriers to independence.”

Another way to think about how important donations made to Goodwill are is to consider that donating “stuff” creates jobs. “When you donate to Goodwill, those donations have the power to change lives,” said Hopf.

In addition to the retail and donation spaces in the new Goodwill store in Cicero, there is also a community room that is open to use by nonprofit organizations in the area.

“As Goodwill grows here in Cicero, and as we look to expand our mission-focused services throughout the region to empower more individuals, we hope to foster partnerships with other organizations that will enhance this community’s vibrant spirit,” said Hopf.

Goodwill has planned special events and drawings to celebrate the opening of the new store. Here is an overview of what is happening on Saturday, May 16:
